According to South Australia Police, emergency services were called to Range Road in Back Valley, approximately 10 kilometres west of Victor Harbor, at about 5:15 p.m. following reports that a truck had crashed into a tree. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as a 57-year-old Waitpinga man, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Modra was reportedly driving a cattle truck at the time of the collision and was airlifted to Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, where he is said to be in a very serious condition and fighting for his life.
