The Eaton High School community is grieving following a devastating single-vehicle crash in Weld County that claimed the lives of three recent graduates and left two others injured on Saturday evening.
According to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), the crash occurred at approximately 5:18 p.m. on Weld County Road 80 near Weld County Road 39. Investigators reported that a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it veered off the roadway and entered a roadside ditch. The SUV later re-entered the roadway, rotated, and rolled multiple times.
Authorities said all five occupants were ejected during the rollover.
Three young men were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims include a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old from Eaton, along with a 19-year-old from Greeley, according to CSP. Officials have not yet publicly released their identities, as notification of their next of kin was still underway at the time of the agency’s update. The Weld County Coroner’s Office is expected to formally identify the victims once the notification process has been completed.
The 20-year-old driver, who is from Wyoming, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Another passenger, a 19-year-old from Eaton, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Emergency responders remained at the scene for several hours as investigators documented evidence and cleared the roadway. Eastbound Weld County Road 80 at Weld County Road 39 was closed for approximately six hours during the investigation.
The tragic crash has sent shockwaves through the Eaton community, where friends, classmates, and residents are mourning the loss of three young lives with promising futures. Messages of sympathy and remembrance have begun circulating as the community comes together to support the victims’ families and one another during this difficult time.
Colorado State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
