A tragic head-on collision in Craighead County claimed the life of a Walnut Ridge woman and left three others injured on Saturday night, according to the Arkansas State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Highway 1 near the intersection of Allen Hester Road. Authorities identified the deceased victim as 76-year-old Frankie Upton of Walnut Ridge.
According to the Arkansas State Police Fatal Crash Report, Upton was driving a 2002 Buick LeSabre southbound on Highway 1 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a northbound 2020 Cadillac XT4.
The Cadillac was being driven by Jean Goza. Following the impact, the SUV left the roadway and overturned. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and provided aid to those involved in the collision.
Three individuals sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to area medical facilities for treatment. The injured were identified as Tammy Upton, Jean Goza, and Bobby Goza. Due to the severity of the incident, a medical helicopter was also dispatched to assist with emergency response efforts. The injured victims were taken to St. Bernards Medical Center and NEA Baptist Hospital.
Investigators reported that weather conditions were clear at the time of the crash, and the roadway was dry. The collision occurred in a rural area of Craighead County.
The Arkansas State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the factors that contributed to the fatal collision.
