Riley Pfeiler Obituary Holy Cross, Iowa Suicide: In Loving Memory Of Riley Pfeiler

Family, friends, and community members across Holy Cross and Dubuque County are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Riley M. Pfeiler, who passed away on May 31, 2026, at the age of 29.

Born on July 6, 1996, to Mike and Lori (Krause) Pfeiler, Riley was raised in Holy Cross and became known for his kindness, infectious personality, and genuine care for others. A graduate of Western Dubuque High School’s Class of 2014, Riley excelled both in the classroom and on the athletic field, participating in track and field, baseball, football, and basketball. His competitive spirit, natural talent, and dedication earned him the admiration of teammates, coaches, and friends alike.

Following high school, Riley attended the University of Northern Iowa, where he earned a degree in finance and real estate in 2018. He approached life with enthusiasm and determination, building meaningful relationships wherever he went. Whether spending time with family, enjoying a round of golf, cheering on Hawkeye football and the Dallas Cowboys, or relaxing with his beloved dog Nala, Riley found joy in the people and experiences that mattered most.

Those who knew Riley remember him as someone who could brighten any room with his energy and sense of humor. He had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcome and valued. Friends describe him as loyal, compassionate, and always willing to check in on others. His family remembers a son and brother whose love, laughter, and presence brought happiness to those around him.

Riley is survived by his parents, Mike and Lori Pfeiler; his sister, Regann (Bryce) Simon; his grandparents, Gary Krause and Dan and Grace Pfeiler; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and his cherished dog, Nala. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Connie Krause.

As loved ones gather to celebrate his life, they remember Riley not only for his accomplishments but for the kindness, warmth, and generosity he shared so freely. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
