A profoundly influential educator, exceptionally talented artist, and fiercely loyal friend, Jessica passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the age of 41.
For nearly two decades, Jessica was a foundational pillar of the Chandler Unified School District, dedicating seventeen years of her life to inspiring the student body at Payne Junior High School. Known for her vibrant creativity, empathetic counseling of youth, and an infectious laugh that could warm any room, she taught her students how to look at the world through the lens of art, ceramics, and unconditional kindness. Her sudden departure leaves an irreplaceable void among her past and present students, faculty colleagues, and a vast network of lifelong friends spanning from Arizona to New York.
Before establishing herself as a celebrated educator in the desert Southwest, Jessica’s formative years were rooted in New York. She attended the State University of New York at Cortland (SUNY Cortland), where she pursued her passion for the arts and humanities. It was during these intense collegiate years that Jessica cemented friendships that would survive decades and distances.
Her college roommate and lifelong confidante, Rissy Lee, shared a deeply moving public tribute that illustrated the raw beauty of Jessica’s early life, painting a picture of a young woman filled with joy, humor, and a peaceful disposition:
“I keep thinking about our days at Cortland, walking downtown through the falling snow at Christmastime, singing carols with snowflakes in our hair. It was so still and peaceful, just the way we liked it. Those are some of the happiest memories of my life… One of my favorites will always be when we dressed up as Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta for Halloween. We laughed until we cried. We always laughed. I wish you were still here laughing with me. I love your laugh. So infectious.”
Jessica’s ability to anchor others during the overwhelming transitions of young adulthood became her defining superpower.
