DARKE COUNTY, Ohio — A second person has died following a head-on dirt bike collision in Harrison Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Kasyn Hollinger, 19, of New Madison, died Sunday at a Dayton-area hospital after suffering critical injuries in the crash, authorities said. His death comes two days after the collision that also claimed the life of 21-year-old Ian Dixon of Hollansburg.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. Friday on Richmond-Palestine Road, north of Downing Road, roughly 12 miles southwest of Greenville.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Dixon was operating a northbound 2005 Honda CRF250, while Hollinger was riding a southbound 2014 KTM 350 SX-F. Preliminary findings indicate the KTM crossed the center line, resulting in a head-on collision with the Honda.
The impact caused both dirt bikes to leave the roadway in opposite directions. Dixon was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Hollinger sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted by MedFlight to Kettering Health for emergency treatment, where he later died Sunday despite continued medical care.
Troopers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. Officials said investigators are examining several potential contributing factors, including alcohol impairment, speed, and helmet use. No final determination has been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities also confirmed that a third individual was taken into custody after reportedly leaving the scene on foot following the crash. According to investigators, the individual was later located beneath a nearby bridge by responding deputies. Officials have not released additional details regarding that person’s involvement or whether any charges have been filed.
The deaths of Hollinger and Dixon have deeply affected communities across Darke County, where family members, friends, and residents are mourning the loss of two young men whose lives ended in a tragic collision.
