FALL RIVER, Mass. — Authorities are investigating a fatal incident after an adult man died following an apparent suicide attempt Tuesday afternoon in a parking lot in Fall River.
Emergency personnel were dispatched at approximately 1:00 p.m. to the Hanover Building parking lot, located at 235 Hanover Street, after receiving a call requesting medical assistance. First responders, including police and emergency medical personnel, arrived at the scene and immediately began providing aid to the injured individual.
Initial reports circulating in the community suggested that the incident involved a shooting. When contacted for clarification, Fall River Police Acting Chief JT Hoar confirmed that the emergency was the result of an apparent suicide attempt.
According to Acting Chief Hoar, the adult male was transported from the scene to Charlton Memorial Hospital, where medical professionals continued efforts to treat his injuries. Despite those efforts, Hoar later confirmed that the man died at the hospital.
Authorities have not publicly released the identity of the deceased, pending appropriate notifications and in accordance with investigative procedures. No additional information regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident has been made available.
The Fall River Police Department’s Major Crimes Division Detectives have assumed responsibility for the investigation and are working to determine the full sequence of events.
