The Jackson, Mississippi, healthcare community is mourning the loss of Brittany Ann Mack, DNP, RN, BSN, a beloved nurse, educator, leader, wife, and mother who passed away on July 20, 2026, at the age of 35. Surrounded by her family at her home, Brittany’s passing marks the end of a remarkable life devoted to caring for others, advancing nursing education, and living out her unwavering Christian faith.
Born Brittany Ann Ransom on May 9, 1991, in Decorah, Iowa, to Lisa and Chris Ransom, she moved with her family to Brandon, Mississippi, at the age of two. She graduated from Brandon High School in 2009 before earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mississippi College in 2013. Committed to lifelong learning, Brittany later completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Healthcare Administration.
Brittany dedicated her professional life to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), where her journey began through an externship with Children’s of Mississippi while still a nursing student. After officially joining UMMC as a registered nurse in 2013, she served in numerous leadership roles, including floor nurse, nurse educator, nurse manager, and later manager of Volunteer Services. She played an instrumental role in opening two new hospital floors and was honored as Mississippi Nurse Educator of the Year in recognition of her exceptional commitment to mentoring future nurses and improving patient care.
In 2023, Brittany accepted what she described as one of her dream positions, leading Volunteer Services at UMMC. Passionate about rebuilding and strengthening volunteer programs following the COVID-19 pandemic, she devoted herself to serving patients, volunteers, and staff with enthusiasm and compassion. She later stepped away from the career she loved to care full-time for her young son, John Hart.
Brittany married Myer Hart Mack on December 11, 2020, after the couple met in 2018. Together they built a home centered on faith, family, and service. A devoted member of Word of Life Church, Brittany’s love for God shaped every aspect of her life.
Her calling as a nurse extended far beyond the hospital. One of the most remarkable moments of her life came when her infant son, John Hart, stopped breathing. With extraordinary courage and composure, Brittany performed lifesaving resuscitation in the back seat of the family vehicle while her husband drove to seek emergency care. Her knowledge, determination, and love saved her son’s life.
Even during more than a year of medical treatment, Brittany never allowed her own suffering to diminish her compassion for others. Friends, colleagues, and loved ones remember her as someone who continued to encourage, comfort, and care for those around her, even while facing her own health challenges. Her children learned the power of prayer by watching her steadfast faith in every season.
As colleagues reflected on her legacy, they shared a heartfelt message: “Brittany, you have officially been released from your nursing duties, and we will continue to carry the torch.”
Brittany Ann Mack leaves behind a legacy defined by faith, excellence, selfless service, and unconditional love. Her influence will continue through the countless patients she cared for, the nurses she mentored, the volunteers she inspired, and the family she cherished.
