The online community is mourning the loss of Rebecca Luna, a TikTok creator and advocate for people living with young-onset Alzheimer’s disease, who died through Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) on Saturday, July 25, at the age of 49.
According to a message shared on her TikTok account, Luna passed away at approximately 1:15 p.m., surrounded by her loved ones.
A single mother from Victoria, British Columbia, Rebecca became widely known after publicly revealing her diagnosis of young-onset Alzheimer’s disease in April 2025. Through her candid videos, she documented her medical journey, shared updates from doctor’s appointments, and openly discussed her decision to pursue MAID, helping educate thousands of followers about the process and Canada’s end-of-life legislation.
Over the following year, Luna became a source of support for others facing terminal illness, answering questions about MAID while encouraging people to advocate for themselves and make informed decisions about their own care. Her honesty and vulnerability earned her a devoted online community that followed her journey with compassion and admiration.
Just days before her passing, Luna announced that she had moved her MAID date from early August to July 25, explaining that she no longer wished to endure the physical and emotional suffering caused by her illness. She described the decision as one made after careful reflection and said it was the first time she truly felt she was prioritizing herself.
Throughout her final messages, Rebecca reflected on a lifetime of hardship while expressing gratitude for discovering her own strength and self-worth. She encouraged others to learn to love themselves and stand up for themselves, sharing a heartfelt final message that resonated deeply with many of her followers.
In addition to raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, Luna fulfilled one of her lifelong dreams by meeting singer Lily Allen, an experience she described as one of the highlights of her life.
Rebecca Luna will be remembered for her courage, honesty, and determination to bring awareness to young-onset Alzheimer’s disease while offering hope, education, and compassion to others navigating similar journeys.
May Rebecca Luna rest in peace. Her advocacy, resilience, and heartfelt message of self-love will continue to inspire countless people around the world.
