According to the Washington State Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:17 a.m. on U.S. Highway 395 near Blue Creek, about five miles northwest of Chewelah. Investigators reported that a northbound passenger vehicle crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a southbound commercial garbage truck.
