CALGARY, Alberta — Bennett Jones LLP is mourning the loss of partner Luke Morrison, a highly respected commercial energy lawyer whose contributions to Canada’s energy sector earned him national recognition throughout his legal career.
Morrison built a distinguished practice focused on commercial energy and infrastructure transactions. Over the course of his career, he advised clients on acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures, project development agreements, and other complex transactions that helped shape Canada’s energy landscape.
Recognized as a Next Generation Partner by The Legal 500, Morrison was also ranked by Lexpert as a leading Canadian mergers and acquisitions lawyer. Earlier in his career, he received Lexpert’s Rising Star Award, which recognizes Canada’s top lawyers under the age of 40 for their professional achievements and leadership.
In addition to his industry accolades, Morrison was ranked by Chambers and Partners in the Oil & Gas category for Canada and served as a board member of the Canadian Energy Law Foundation (CELF), reflecting his commitment to advancing the legal profession and supporting the development of energy law across the country.
Throughout his career, Morrison acted as lead counsel on numerous high-profile transactions involving conventional oil and gas, power generation, renewable energy projects, industrial emissions initiatives, and carbon capture and storage developments. His practice also included extensive work in upstream and midstream oil and gas agreements, co-ownership arrangements, Indigenous-industry partnerships, electricity supply agreements, and commercial matters arising from energy restructurings and insolvencies.
