HIGH RIVER, Alberta — The High River community is mourning the loss of Cayla Bleeker, a devoted mother of two, following a fatal domestic violence shooting that occurred on July 28, 2026.
According to the High River RCMP, officers responded twice to the same residence on 112 Street East on Tuesday evening after receiving reports of a disturbance.
Police said the first call was placed shortly before 6 p.m. by the suspect, who made allegations involving the victim. After investigating, officers determined the allegations were unfounded and cleared the scene.
At approximately 9:28 p.m., RCMP received a second call from the same individual. When officers arrived, they found 36-year-old Cayla Bleeker suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to High River General Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Police arrested 36-year-old Jarrett Stobbe at the scene. RCMP have charged him with second-degree murder in connection with Bleeker’s death. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks on July 31.
A preliminary court record search indicates the accused had previous interactions with Alberta’s justice system, including a 2013 conviction for assault, as well as several withdrawn charges involving allegations of uttering threats and assault with a weapon.
RCMP declined to comment further on the investigation or the nature of the allegations made during the initial call to police, citing the ongoing judicial process.
Beyond the tragedy, family and friends are remembering Cayla Bleeker for her unwavering devotion to her children and the strength she demonstrated throughout her life.
According to loved ones, Cayla was a dedicated single mother whose two daughters—aged just 10 months and six years—were the centre of her life. She worked tirelessly as the family’s sole provider, often holding down work seven days a week to ensure her daughters had everything they needed, even during the challenging months following the birth of her youngest child.
Those who knew Cayla describe her as compassionate, resilient, and deeply committed to her family. Despite life’s many hardships, she was known for maintaining a positive outlook, an infectious sense of humour, and a willingness to help others whenever she could.
Her sudden death has left an immeasurable void in the lives of her children, family members, friends, and the broader High River community. Many have shared memories of a loving mother whose greatest joy came from raising her daughters and building a better future for them.
As the criminal case proceeds through the courts, family and friends continue to mourn Cayla’s loss while remembering the love, dedication, and kindness that defined her life. The focus now turns to supporting her young daughters and honoring the memory of a mother whose life was tragically cut short.
