The Stockton-on-Tees community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Sensi Sam, a much-loved martial arts instructor, academy manager, mentor, and friend whose passing has left an immeasurable void in the lives of her family, colleagues, students, and the wider Yarm Martial Arts community.
In a heartfelt announcement, Yarm Martial Arts Academy shared the sad news that Sam passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. For more than a decade, she played an irreplaceable role within the academy, becoming one of its most respected and cherished members.
Sam’s journey with the academy was one of dedication and growth. She first became involved as a parent before embracing training as a student herself. Over the years, her passion for martial arts and her commitment to helping others saw her become an instructor before ultimately serving as the academy’s manager. Throughout every stage of that journey, she remained devoted to supporting the academy and everyone who walked through its doors.
Many of the academy’s long-term students were taught by Sam from the very beginning of their martial arts journey, some starting as young as three years old. She was known for her patience, encouragement, and remarkable ability to help both children and adults feel welcomed, supported, and confident. Whether assisting a nervous beginner or helping students overcome personal challenges, Sam’s compassion and kindness touched countless lives.
Her colleagues remember her as an integral part of Yarm Martial Arts, Evolve, and the surrounding community. Her dedication extended far beyond teaching techniques, as she helped build a welcoming environment where students and families felt like they belonged.
Sam is survived by her loving husband, Gareth, and her devoted children, Mia and James, who remain in the thoughts and prayers of everyone connected to the academy. Staff, students, and parents have pledged to support the family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.
Though her passing has brought profound sadness, Sensi Sam’s legacy will continue to live on through the generations of students she inspired, the friendships she built, and the countless lives she enriched with her warmth, patience, and unwavering dedication.
