NEW BERN, N.C. — A 58-year-old motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night following a collision with a passenger vehicle at the intersection of Old Cherry Point Road and Airport Road in New Bern, according to authorities.
The crash occurred at approximately 8:53 p.m. on July 29. Investigators said Michael Shawn Hoveland was traveling eastbound on Old Cherry Point Road on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when the collision happened.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a Kia sedan driven by 23-year-old Mariana Graybeal Libengood attempted to make a left turn onto Airport Road and failed to yield the right of way to the oncoming motorcycle.
The impact ejected Hoveland from the motorcycle. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but he was pronounced dead at the location.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. Authorities have not released additional information regarding potential charges or other contributing factors.
