Authorities are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that claimed the life of Reeltown High School graduate Bailee Ward late Friday night on U.S. Highway 231 near Wetumpka.

According to the Wetumpka Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 11:05 p.m. on May 22, 2026, in the 4700 block of the highway. Officers and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a single-vehicle motorcycle accident involving two occupants.

Investigators say the motorcycle left the roadway for reasons that remain under review. The vehicle subsequently overturned, resulting in severe damage. Ward, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency response efforts. A second occupant was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to a hospital in Montgomery for treatment. Their condition has not been publicly released.

The southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 231 were closed for approximately two hours as law enforcement conducted an on-scene investigation and crash reconstruction. Traffic was diverted while officials documented evidence, including roadway markings, debris patterns, and vehicle positioning.

Authorities have not yet determined what factors contributed to the crash. Investigators are examining potential elements such as speed, roadway conditions, visibility, mechanical issues, and helmet use. Toxicology testing and a full accident reconstruction are expected as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Wetumpka Police Department is leading the inquiry, with assistance from other local and state agencies as needed. Officials have urged anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has relevant dashcam footage to contact investigators.

Ward, a graduate of Reeltown High School, is being remembered by members of the community as friends, classmates, and educators express condolences and reflect on her life. School officials are expected to coordinate support resources for students and staff affected by the loss.
