A former member of the Fredericton Police Force has been formally charged following the conclusion of an independent criminal investigation led by the Miramichi Police Force, according to officials.
Authorities confirmed that Andrew Savoy, who served as a constable with the Fredericton Police Force from 2023 until his resignation in January 2026, is facing charges of perjury, uttering forged documents, and breach of trust. Officials allege the offences occurred during his tenure with the department.
The case reportedly originated after an internal audit of case files identified irregularities, prompting the Fredericton Police Force to initiate a criminal complaint and refer the matter to the Miramichi Police Force for independent investigation. The New Brunswick Police Commission was also notified under the Police Act framework.
Fredericton Police Chief Gary Forward stated that the department remains committed to accountability and transparency, emphasizing that all members—current and former—are subject to the law without exception.
Deputy Chief Randy Hansen of the Miramichi Police Force led the investigation, noting that it was conducted with standard procedural diligence and objectivity expected in criminal matters. Officials also acknowledged cooperation between agencies throughout the investigation process.
Due to Savoy’s resignation, the New Brunswick Police Commission no longer held jurisdiction over the conduct complaint, resulting in the administrative review being closed. However, the criminal case continued independently through law enforcement channels.
Savoy is scheduled to appear in court on August 28, 2026. Authorities confirmed that the matter is now before the courts, and no additional details will be released at this time.
Officials stressed that the allegations remain unproven, and the accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
